About the Role
The Youth Justice Worker role at HMP Feltham is a vital position focused on supporting children and young people in custody. Similar to a prison officer but specialised for youth custody, you will ensure the security and safety of young individuals while providing day-to-day support within a custodial environment. This role involves practical responsibilities such as facilitating safe movement around the site, supervising young people, and intervening when necessary to manage behaviour and maintain safety.
You will work with young people who may have committed serious offences, come from challenging backgrounds, or have mental health needs. Your role is crucial in helping these individuals build better futures through respectful support, effective communication, and collaboration with families and other professionals.
Comprehensive training and ongoing development will equip you with the skills to understand the diverse needs of young people in custody and respond appropriately in complex situations. Following a 12-month probationary period, you will have the opportunity to undertake a Level 4 Qualification focused on working with children and young people in custody, supporting your career progression within the Youth Custody Service.
