This exciting opportunity within the Dental Directorate is for an Assistant Service Manager based at Guy’s Hospital. The role involves supporting the Service Manager in the daily operational delivery of services, managing an administrative team, and liaising with clinical staff to ensure smooth and efficient service provision.
The post holder will have a direct positive impact on patient experience by overseeing administrative functions, managing office systems, and supporting clinical teams. This role requires excellent prioritisation, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage a busy and demanding environment effectively.
The Assistant Service Manager will work closely with a team leader and Service Manager, exercising delegated authority to resolve day-to-day management issues, developing policies and procedures, managing financial and staffing resources, and maintaining high standards of clinical secretarial support.

Experience
- Significant experience in staff supervision and management including recruitment, retention, appraisal, and first-line disciplinary processes
- Experience in budget management and meeting operational objectives
- Experience delivering Administrative and Clerical Outpatient Services
- Proven track record of managing in a busy and demanding environment

Qualifications
- Educated to HNC level, equivalent diploma, or relevant experience
- GCSEs in Maths and English
- Evidence of continuous professional and management development
- Financial management and analysis skills are desirable
