About the Role
Join Adult Social Care as an Assistant Team Manager (ATM) within the Mental Health Team and receive a generous Welcome Bonus of £1000, paid in your first month's salary. Reporting to the Team Manager, you will support team operations including recruitment, retention, and workload allocation. You will provide ongoing supervision to maintain exceptional standards of casework and offer guidance, leveraging the Team Manager's expertise for complex cases. You will also contribute to ensuring commissioned services are cost-effective and participate in co-producing service improvements with service users and their families.
The Mental Health Team is a new initiative coordinating social care for individuals with complex mental health needs. It delivers the AMHP service, works closely with inpatient services to promote timely discharges, and coordinates community-based support including Care Act assessments, reviews, safeguarding, and S117 aftercare. The team contributes to meeting statutory duties under the Care Act and Mental Health Act, adopting a strength-based approach focused on achieving the best outcomes for service users.
The Mental Health Team has been restructured to include three Assistant Team Managers who support day-to-day functions as part of the Duty Manager rota, including acting as Safeguarding Manager for statutory safeguarding enquiries. One ATM will focus on hospital discharge tasks and support discharge workers, while another will primarily work with long-term complex casework and reviews.
This role is ideal for those already in management or experienced social workers with strong leadership skills within a local authority context. You will be expected to have in-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and guidance pertinent to social work practice in mental health and social care. You will support staff to adopt creative and innovative approaches, manage your own time effectively to meet deadlines, and ensure the quality of work delivered by your team meets established standards.
As part of the London Borough of Sutton, you will work in a borough committed to investing in health, wellbeing, and education, with a vision to create a vibrant community and a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
