About the Role
Cognus Limited, a Local Authority Traded Company commissioned by the London Borough of Sutton, is seeking an experienced Independent Travel Trainer to join our dedicated Travel Training Team. This role involves working holistically to provide travel training for young people with additional needs, collaborating with Cognus colleagues, professionals, families, and schools across Sutton.

You will deliver one-to-one travel training using recognised Independent Travel Training (ITT) methods, assess learners’ suitability, plan personalised training programmes, carry out route planning and risk assessments, and work closely with families, schools, and SEND teams. You will also record outcomes, support service coordination, and promote the service locally.

Full training, including ITT Level 2, will be provided if required. The role requires confidence in using public transport, the ability to work independently in the community, and a strong commitment to safeguarding and inclusion.

Experience
Proven experience supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) is essential. Experience in delivering travel training or working with young people to develop independence is highly desirable.

You will be motivated, patient, reliable, and safety focused. You must be confident using public transport and able to work independently within the community. Building effective relationships and supporting independence in young people are key attributes for this role. A strong commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and promoting the welfare of children and young people is required.

Qualifications
No specific qualifications are required to apply, as full training including ITT Level 2 will be provided if needed. A positive attitude and willingness to learn are essential.
