The Assurance and Surveillance Manager will support the Trust Lead for Surgical Site Infection (SSI) Surveillance, Research and Innovation by developing, implementing and evaluating a seamless specialist service across five hospital sites. The role involves leading the surgical site infection surveillance (SSIS) service, ensuring high standards of clinical care, providing specialist advice, education and support to healthcare professionals and patients, and actively undertaking clinical audits and supporting research and innovation.

The post holder will contribute to the development of clinical practice, research, policies, protocols and guidelines, ensuring patient safety and dignity through person-centred care principles. They will manage a team including Deputy CNS surveillance nurses, surveillance assistants and administrators, and ensure timely, accurate and high-quality data collection and reporting. The role requires establishing effective multidisciplinary relationships to support patient care and infection prevention pre-, peri- and post-operatively.

This position offers the opportunity to work within a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment at one of the largest NHS Trusts in the country, contributing to the ongoing improvement of infection prevention and control and patient outcomes.

Requirements

Experience
- Extensive autonomous experience at an advanced level within the specialist area delivering patient-focused care
- Proven management and leadership skills
- Experience in student supervision and clinical education at undergraduate level
- Experience in patient advocacy, audit, research and evidence-based care
- Experience in delivering change management personally and as a facilitator
- Desirable: Relevant and consolidated experience in surveillance

About you
- Advanced clinical, managerial and leadership skills in specialty
- Excellent listening and counselling skills with ability to manage complex situations and deliver sensitive outcomes
- Proven teaching skills to raise patient awareness and condition management
- Ability to lead and influence staff effectively
- Up-to-date knowledge of clinical and professional issues
- Strong verbal, written, interpersonal and communication skills
- Skilled in history taking and physical assessment to direct patient care
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Ability to conduct and evaluate projects successfully
- Understanding of national specialty agenda and quality standards including NICE recommendations
- IT and presentation skills
- Desirable: Ability to interpret and analyse complex data, clinical research experience, understanding of national SSI agenda

Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN1 or RN Child) on the NMC register or relevant professional background
- BSc/1st Degree or Masters in a health-related field or equivalent qualification and experience
- Postgraduate certificate in specialist area (e.g. infection link practitioner course, surveillance or audit skills)
- Leadership and Mentorship courses
- Desirable: Master’s degree in health economics, medical statistics, epidemiology, health informatics or related discipline or equivalent knowledge through experience and training
