About the Role
Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS trusts, providing a wide range of hospital and community services across south London and beyond. As part of King’s Health Partners (KHP), an Academic Health Sciences Centre, this newly created Chief of Staff role offers a unique opportunity to support the KHP Executive in overseeing a diverse portfolio and leading the implementation of the KHP 2030 strategy. The post holder will be a key member of the senior leadership team, providing expert advice, management, and organisational support to the Executive Director and executive team. This role includes managing corporate affairs, communications, and business support functions, while fostering strong collaborative links with King’s College London and other partners.

The role requires a highly autonomous leader with exceptional interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills to operate effectively across a complex system. You will play a pivotal role in strategic programme management, governance, staff and financial management, and change management to drive continuous improvement and deliver high-quality outcomes aligned with the KHP Impact Framework.

Key responsibilities include programme management of the Executive team’s strategic agenda, day-to-day management of the Executive Director and senior team, oversight of corporate affairs and communications, coordination of the Senior Leadership Team, managing key external relationships, and working closely with university partners to maintain strong cross-sector collaboration.

Requirements

Experience
- Extensive experience delivering change and performance through management teams, ideally with knowledge of both NHS and university/education sectors.
- Proven track record in NHS regulatory processes, governance, strategic programme reporting, and developing governance models.
- Strong background in continuous business planning, programme/project management, and delivering value for money outcomes.
- Extensive people management experience with a thorough understanding of relevant policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse and synthesise budgets effectively.

- Strong organisational skills with the ability to forecast, plan, and develop unit capability aligned with business plans and organisational vision.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with authority to manage relationships across organisational boundaries.
- Highly autonomous, proactive, and able to influence at all levels within a complex partnership.

Qualifications
- Extensive professional knowledge acquired through a degree supplemented by specialist training, doctorate or equivalent level.
- MBA, management qualification, or equivalent experience.
- Proven success in delivering effective corporate services in large, multifaceted environments including staff management, financial management, and change management.
