About the Role
Hackney Council is seeking an exceptional Community Safety and Principal Enforcement Officer (PEO) for a 12-month fixed term contract or secondment opportunity within the Community Safety, Enforcement and Business Regulation Service. You will be part of a broader, inclusive team delivering accountable and timely enforcement actions in line with legislation and Council policies. The role involves managing a wide range of enforcement duties including Noise, Community Safety, Anti-Social Behaviour, Street Scene, and environmental enforcement such as Fly tipping, Graffiti, Fly posting, Littering, and Highway obstructions, as well as general public realm enforcement.

You will be assigned specific wards to address localised problems, challenge and change behaviours, and contribute to achieving the Mayor’s priorities and the Council’s corporate objectives. While expertise in all enforcement areas is not required, experience in effective case management in some of these fields and the ability to transfer those skills is essential. You must demonstrate skill and sensitivity in dealing with complainants and victims of Anti-Social Behaviour, progressing cases while listening to concerns and managing expectations.

Maintaining accurate service-specific records to ensure compliance with reporting obligations is a key part of the role. You will report to an Enforcement Manager and work alongside other Principal Enforcement Officers, Enforcement Officers (in uniform), Technical Support, and the wider Community Safety and Business Regulation Service to provide excellent service to residents and the public.

An enhanced DBS check is required for this position.

Hackney is one of London’s most vibrant and diverse boroughs, offering great schools, parks, local amenities, and excellent transport links. This role offers the opportunity to work in a place where you can represent the Council’s values and make a real difference to the community.

Applications are through an anonymous selection process and require completion of competency-based questions to demonstrate suitability for the role. Supporting statements or CVs are not accepted.

Prior to applying for a secondment, please liaise with your line manager.
