About the Role
Join Justice Digital, Data and Science as a Data Scientist within the Ministry of Justice. You will be part of a collaborative Data Science & AI team working to ensure high quality data, algorithms, and tools are available, trusted, and effectively used to improve decision making across the justice system. This role supports the department’s strategic, operational, and transformation priorities by turning complex data into meaningful insights and practical tools.
The Data Science community at MoJ comprises around 80 staff members delivering a wide range of projects including generative AI, machine learning, natural language processing, semantic embedding models, traditional statistics, and operational research techniques. You will contribute to impactful services such as the award-winning safety diagnostic tool for tackling violence in prisons and the public-facing Criminal Justice System delivery dashboard.

Experience
- Applying data science techniques or analytical experience such as machine learning, language models, data visualisation, and/or traditional statistical modelling
- Writing high-quality code in Python or significant experience with other programming languages and ability to learn Python quickly
- Data derivation and manipulation using code and/or SQL
- Communicating analytical results effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Identifying opportunities and applicability of data science
About you
Enthusiastic about data science with a strong foundation in probability and statistics and an interest in how models work. You are collaborative, keen to keep up to date with emerging technologies, and committed to contributing to an inclusive and vibrant team environment.
You must be willing to be assessed against the requirements for Security Check clearance.
