About the Role
This key role as a Designated Individual (HV Power) is a senior technical and compliance expert position within Costain's Technical Excellence team, focused on high voltage (HV) site construction operations, design oversight, assurance, and compliance. You will lead and drive robust, safe, compliant, and high-quality transmission designs and processes supporting substation construction and cabling development works, predominantly in the HV range up to 400kV. As the company’s expert for HV transmission solutions and compliance, you will own processes, technical controls, assurance, and competencies across the entire project lifecycle including tender, design, construction, commissioning, and handover. You will ensure technical assurance, safe-by-design principles, compliance, and effective stakeholder management throughout HV Infrastructure and Transmission projects. Responsibilities include providing technical leadership across all HV projects, acting as the main point of contact for internal and external stakeholders including National Grid, developing and assuring HV technical working procedures, defining training and competency needs, and mentoring HV design engineers and multidisciplinary teams. You will also drive quality control and assurance, manage complex technical challenges, and promote a culture of continuous improvement through lessons learned, best practice, and innovation.

Experience
Broad knowledge of UK HV (up to 400kV) project and construction operations at all stages. Detailed knowledge and experience of National Grid standards and UK regulations. Proven forensic and investigation skills within the discipline. Experience in developing and assuring technical procedures and managing HV technical competency. Strong leadership experience with a focus on safety, quality, risk, and opportunity management. Commercial and contractual awareness relevant to HV projects.

UK Chartered Engineer status. Certified HV working skills/card with supporting CPD. Eligible for UK Security Clearance. Digital skills relevant to role requirements. Desirable qualifications include line management and people development experience, connections to industry bodies or institutions, commercial/contractual training, and project management or risk qualifications such as APM.
