About the Role
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is seeking up to two Grade 6 Heads of Transformation Delivery to join the Strategy and Transformation Directorate within the Service Strategy & Transformation (SS&T) Directorate. This role is part of the Service Transformation Group (STG), which leads the transformation of justice services across the UK. The post holder will lead delivery across a portfolio of services or systems, forming a critical part of the MoJ’s transformation delivery function.

You will lead a motivated, high-performing team that intervenes where change is most challenging—addressing stalled services, restoring pace and confidence, and strengthening transformation capability. Working closely with service owners, programme Senior Responsible Owners (SROs), and digital, data, and operational partners, you will unblock progress, raise standards, and embed sustainable delivery practices.

This role involves hands-on delivery support, capability building, and structured problem-solving, often working alongside the Innovation Engine to pilot new ways of working and unlock value through innovation. You will provide expert delivery leadership and challenge to senior leaders across the department, championing outcome-focused delivery and pragmatic problem-solving at scale.

As the Directorate evolves, you will also help shape and continuously improve the operating model of the transformation function, bringing insights from delivery units, priority projects, or consultancy experience to drive transformation outcomes at pace and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end transformation projects within your domain, ensuring demonstrable progress against user outcomes.
- Provide strategic problem-solving and coordinate cross-functional teams to address delivery challenges.
- Embed MoJ service transformation standards and ways of working, coaching teams to build sustainable capability.
- Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, acting as a trusted delivery partner.
- Manage and develop G7 Delivery Leads, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous learning.

Experience
- Exceptional at diagnosing complex, high-stakes delivery and transformation challenges, structuring ambiguous problems into clear, actionable priorities.
- Proven ability to rapidly establish high-performing project teams, restore pace and confidence, and lead through uncertainty to deliver tangible improvements.
- Strong understanding of digital, data, and technology-enabled transformation, able to bridge disciplines and act as a trusted translator between digital, policy, and operational leaders.
- Demonstrated experience engaging, challenging, and influencing senior leaders in complex organisational and political contexts.
- Experience applying agile and outcome-focused operating models pragmatically in complex public service or mission-driven environments.

- This role is open to candidates from inside or outside the Civil Service who bring relevant delivery experience.
- Experience working within or closely with the justice system is desirable but not essential.
