About the Role
The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman (PPO) is an Arm’s Length Body of the Ministry of Justice responsible for investigating complaints and deaths in custody across prisons, approved premises, probation supervision, and immigration detention. The PPO receives around 4,000 new complaints annually and investigates between 300 and 350 deaths in custody each year.
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Information Technology (IT) Officer to join the Learning, Analysis and Business Services (LABS) team. This key role involves managing the day-to-day operation of our IT systems and the case management system (PPUD), championing the adoption and use of artificial intelligence (AI) within the organisation, and leading the development of a new case management system as project manager when funding permits.
The successful candidate will be well-organised, confident in project management, and able to communicate effectively with staff of varying IT experience. You will work closely with multiple stakeholders, including the Ministry of Justice IT department and internal teams such as Complaints and Fatal Incidents. While part of a wider team, the role requires a high degree of independent working.
The PPO office is based at 10 South Colonnade, Canary Wharf. Staff are expected to work at least three days per week in the office, with flexibility for remote working on other days. Occasional mandatory office attendance or visits to establishments within PPO remit will be required. Due to immigration rules, sponsorship is unlikely for candidates without the right to work in the UK.
Interviews will be conducted virtually via Microsoft Teams.
