About the Role
This role is based within the Ministry of Justice's Information Services Division (ISD), specifically in the Access, Retention & Library team under the Departmental Records Officer (DRO). The post holder will respond to requests for access to closed records, provide guidance on records retention, and offer administrative support to the team. The role involves handling sensitive criminal court case records, some of which contain distressing content. The position requires working at The National Archives in Kew and hosting visits at the MoJ Headquarters in London. The role supports compliance with legislation including the Public Records Act 1958, the Freedom of Information Act 2000, and data protection laws. Responsibilities include managing access requests, retention enquiries, mailbox management, publishing Records Retention and Disposition Schedules, supporting projects to enhance compliance, compiling statistics, and assisting with communications and marketing campaigns.
Team Overview
The Security and Information Directorate (SID) is part of the Service Transformation Group, focusing on modernising and digitising legacy systems across the Ministry of Justice. SID manages security, data protection, and information risks, providing assurance and upskilling the department. The Access, Retention & Library team supports criminal justice professionals and others by providing lawful access to records, managing retention guidance, and maintaining the MoJ Library's research resources and corporate memory.
Security and Compliance
This role requires a Security Check (SC) clearance and adherence to strict data protection and information security standards. The post holder must be able to handle sensitive information lawfully and securely.
Experience
- Experience or qualification in information and records management is desirable but not essential.
- Ability to handle complex and large amounts of information.
- Experience working in compliance with legislation such as the Public Records Act, Freedom of Information Act, and GDPR is advantageous.
