About the Role
The Healthy Living Practitioner will play a key role in service development by implementing policy changes that impact all service users and advising the team leader of any service development updates to ensure quality standards and effective patient care. You will identify areas requiring service improvement and take appropriate action using standard research methods and evaluation tools. You will be responsible for the competent use and maintenance reporting of all equipment across community and outpatient sites, including gym and free weights equipment.
In addition, you will participate in the supervision, teaching, and appraisal of assistants and technical instructors, and support dietitian and physiotherapy students on placement. Accurate and evaluative record keeping for your clinical caseload and supervision of assistant record keeping will be essential.
You will flexibly plan and organise your time, patient caseload, meetings, and training, adjusting plans as needed according to staffing levels. Supporting junior team members and delegating tasks such as exercise class allocation will be part of your role, alongside ensuring smooth organisation of patient group work including gym classes.
Effective communication skills are vital to motivate and persuade others, including communicating complex and sensitive information to patients, carers, and staff, sometimes overcoming barriers such as language or lack of privacy. Maintaining close liaison with all staff and stakeholders involved in patient care, education, research, or policy development is expected.
Education and continuous professional development are key aspects of this role. You will contribute to the education of multidisciplinary groups, patients, families, and carers, proactively learning from colleagues and maintaining a CPD portfolio. You will assist in organising and participating in in-service education programmes and keep abreast of new developments in physiotherapy treatments and nutrition advice.
Research, quality, and audit activities form an important part of the role. You will participate in ongoing audits and research projects, keep up to date with evidence-based practice, and ensure compliance with national and local standards.
The post holder must comply with all Trust policies including confidentiality, data protection, information governance, equal opportunities, health and safety, infection control, risk management, safeguarding, sustainability, and smoking policies.
