About the Role
The Legal Counsel, Europe is a junior to mid-level legal role within Greystar Europe’s transaction management team. The successful candidate will take a lead role in the day-to-day European development, asset management and operational legal workstreams. Key responsibilities include acting as the day-to-day legal point of contact for European business teams, building trusted relationships with internal stakeholders, and supporting senior legal colleagues in advising on business objectives and risk management. The role covers matters relating to both Greystar owned assets (student and multifamily) and third party owned assets where Greystar acts as property manager. The Legal Counsel will provide key support on European development acquisitions and throughout the lifecycle of developments, including construction works, practical completion, stabilization, lease up, estate management, and defect rectification. Responsibilities also include reviewing and negotiating real estate contracts such as property management agreements, tenancy agreements, propco and opco leases, nomination agreements, and development agreements. The role leads the day-to-day retail leasing strategy across Europe, advising on head-of-terms and transaction documentation, maintaining and rolling out template documents and legal precedents across European markets. Additional duties include transactional support, issues list and data room management, horizon scanning and monitoring regulatory requirements including sustainability, health and safety, fire and building safety, and assisting in policy and process development to ensure compliance. The Legal Counsel will provide legal support for key capital expenditure works including building safety remediation, assist with operational queries from on-site teams, support procurement contract reviews, collaborate with the data privacy team on data protection procedures, and support compliance monitoring and implementation. The role also contributes to the team’s AI innovation strategy to improve efficiencies and consistency across European markets.
Experience
Qualified solicitor (England & Wales or equivalent) with junior to mid-level experience in real estate law gained at a reputable law firm or in-house business. Experience or exposure to real estate asset management, operations, or development work is desirable. In-house or secondment experience is helpful but not essential.
