Hours
Part Time - 7 hours per week (Saturday or Sunday)
Salary
£30,854 per annum (pro rata)
About the Role
Be the engine behind Hackney’s legendary markets. From Ridley Road to Broadway, Hackney’s markets are iconic. As a Market Stall Operative, you’ll be on the frontline — setting up stalls before the sun rises, ensuring everything runs safely and smoothly, and keeping the heart of Hackney beating strong.
Working across Hackney’s street trading sites, you will build, dismantle, and safely store stalls, gazebos, barriers, tables, and lighting — ensuring everything is in place and running smoothly for traders and visitors. This role involves handling heavy equipment, working outdoors in all weather conditions, and being a visible and approachable member of the frontline team.
Your duties will include loading and unloading materials, installing barriers, signage and electrical cables safely, keeping market areas clean and hazard-free, and engaging positively with traders and the public to support excellent customer service. You will work every Saturday and Sunday, with occasional weekday shifts as needed.
This is a physically demanding outdoor role with early starts and manual handling, but it is also incredibly rewarding. You will help local businesses grow, keep the streets lively and safe, and play a central role in Hackney’s vibrant market culture.
Join a nationally recognised, multi-award-winning Markets, Shop Fronts & Street Trading Service that drives inclusive growth, sustainability, and cultural celebration. Be proud to support Ridley Road, Broadway, Hoxton, and the UK’s first Zero Plastic Markets, and contribute to a team where staff thrive, innovate, and shape the future of public service delivery.
Experience
Practical experience in manual handling or outdoor work is desirable but not essential. A hardworking, customer-focused attitude and the ability to work as part of a team are essential.
About you
You are a reliable and practical team player who enjoys working outdoors and engaging with the public. You are comfortable with early mornings, physically demanding tasks, and working in all weather conditions. You demonstrate initiative and work well under pressure.
You are proud to represent Hackney’s values: Proud, Ambitious, Pioneering, Open, Proactive, and Inclusive.
Qualifications
No formal qualifications are required for this role. A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and commitment to supporting local communities and businesses are key.
