About the Role
Hackney Borough Council is one of the most dynamic and progressive local authorities in the UK, known for its resilience, vibrancy, and creativity. We serve a diverse community with strong shared values and a commitment to equity, anti-racism, and fairness across gender, neurodiversity, and poverty divides.
Hackney Parking Services lead the way in best practices and performance within the parking industry. We have been the number one borough in Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) appeals for two consecutive years and were among the first to implement School Streets and Ultra Low Emission Zones, all enforced by our parking enforcement team.
Following the recent insourcing of parking enforcement operations, this role is pivotal in the creation, delivery, and implementation of the newly insourced service.
As a Mobile Road and Traffic Enforcement Officer, you will undertake statutory duties under the Traffic Management Act 2004, managing road and traffic enforcement and issuing Penalty Charge Notices for parking contraventions. You will also manage vehicle removal operations and assist the Council in reporting other related issues.
This role requires excellent communication and networking skills to engage directly with residents and partner services. Your organisational skills, problem-solving abilities, and conflict management expertise will enable you to manage a varied caseload and collaborate effectively to achieve positive outcomes.
You will work outdoors across Hackney in all weather conditions and must be comfortable working in an agile context from different locations to best meet community needs.
Previous parking enforcement experience is not mandatory as full training will be provided on the job. The role requires a full Category A licence or a valid CBT as it involves regular use of a scooter, moped, or motorcycle.
An Enhanced DBS check is required for this position.
Hackney Council values its staff as its most outstanding asset, committed to serving residents and achieving organisational goals. We are working towards a vision of being a place for everyone, celebrating diversity and inclusion where all can feel valued and involved.
We operate a fair and open anonymous selection process and do not accept supporting statements or CVs. Applicants will complete competency-based questions to demonstrate suitability for the role.
Closing date for applications: 29 October 2025 (22:59)
Interview and assessment dates: 12, 13 and 14 November 2025
