About the Role
Join Justice Digital, Data and Science as a Senior Data Scientist and be part of a collaborative team dedicated to improving decision making across the justice system through high quality data, algorithms, and tools. This role supports the department’s strategic, operational, and transformation priorities by turning complex data into meaningful insights and practical tools.
The Data Science community at MoJ includes around 80 professionals working on diverse projects such as machine learning, natural language processing, semantic embedding models, and operational research techniques. Notable achievements include the award-winning safety diagnostic tool for tackling violence in prisons and the public-facing Criminal Justice System delivery data dashboard.

Experience
- Applying data science techniques such as machine learning, language models, and traditional statistical models
- Strong foundation in probability and statistics with an interest in model mechanics
- Writing high-quality code in Python or significant experience in other programming languages with ability to learn Python quickly
- Data derivation and manipulation using code and/or SQL
- Communicating analytical results effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Identifying opportunities for data science application and taking initiative in project development
- Willingness to undergo Security Check clearance assessment
