About the Role
Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts, providing a wide range of hospital and community services across south London and specialist care nationally. Harefield Hospital Critical Care offers specialist care for critically ill patients with complex cardiothoracic conditions in a busy and dynamic clinical environment. The Ward Clerk is an integral member of the Critical Care team, providing essential administrative and clerical support to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the unit and to support the patient journey.
The role involves accurate management of electronic patient information using EPIC and other Trust systems, supporting patient admissions, transfers and discharges, and maintaining an up-to-date Critical Care bed state. The post holder will manage patient records and documentation, provide general clerical support to the multidisciplinary clinical team, and act as a professional and compassionate first point of contact for patients' relatives and visitors. This requires sensitivity, professionalism, and the ability to work flexibly and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment.
The post holder will liaise with nursing staff, medical teams, Patient Flow, and other departments to support timely patient movement and efficient unit functioning. They will also assist with arranging appointments, transport, and other administrative aspects of the patient pathway, while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to Trust policies and information governance requirements.
