About the Role
Every day, more than 16 million customers rely on Thames Water's operational technology systems to safely collect, treat and transport wastewater. Behind those systems is a complex network of SCADA, automation, control and communications infrastructure that operates 24/7 across hundreds of operational sites. As a Waste Site SCADA Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing site-based SCADA systems across our wastewater operations estate. These systems provide critical monitoring, control and operational insight across treatment works and pumping stations.
Your responsibilities will include supporting and maintaining critical SCADA platforms such as AVEVA System Platform/Wonderware, FactoryTalk View and Iconics, ensuring high levels of system availability, resilience and security. You will troubleshoot and resolve faults involving SCADA systems, HMIs, PLCs and communications infrastructure, deliver upgrades and patches to keep systems secure and reliable, and support disaster recovery planning and business continuity arrangements.
You will work closely with operations teams to understand challenges and identify opportunities for improvement, provide technical input into capital delivery and OT improvement projects, and champion OT change management, risk management and cybersecurity best practices. Acting as a subject matter expert, you will share knowledge and mentor colleagues across the wider Operational Technology community.
This role offers the opportunity to influence technical standards, support major transformation programmes, and work on technologies that are central to Thames Water's operational future. You will be part of a collaborative team environment where innovation and continuous improvement are encouraged, helping to reduce pollution, improve environmental outcomes and deliver better performance for customers.
