About the Role
The Mercure & Ibis London Earls Court hotel is a newly renovated property in Southwest London, featuring 508 rooms across two distinct Accor brands: 282 Mercure rooms and 226 Ibis rooms. The London Suite is the main ballroom, a versatile pillar-free space divisible into nine meeting rooms, accommodating events up to 1,200 guests. The F&B outlets, created by PARIS SOCIETY, include Barnaby’s, ideal for social events with options for private hire of Barnaby’s Kitchen or Barnaby’s Lounge Bar for groups or additional catering/meeting space.
As Assistant Groups and Events Manager, you will support the Senior Events & Groups Manager in managing, supervising, and developing the Events & Groups team. Acting as a key link between senior management and the team, you will ensure enquiries are handled efficiently, proposals issued timely, business converted and contracted correctly, and event planning information communicated accurately to hotel operations.
You will coach and support the team, guiding daily queries, workload prioritisation, standards, systems, and customer service delivery. Leading by example in enquiry handling, conversion, planning, upselling, and attention to detail is essential. The role demands strong organisational skills, commercial awareness, excellent communication, and a proactive approach to supporting both the team and client journey from enquiry to post-event follow-up.
Responsibilities include deputising for the Senior Manager, reviewing lost and cancelled business to identify new opportunities, supporting proactive sales activities, managing your own portfolio of events, assisting with complex or high-value enquiries, ensuring high standards in Banquet Event Orders (BEOs), and working closely with hotel operations to ensure smooth event delivery.
You will also support financial processes, maintain accurate records in hotel systems, assist with sales initiatives, provide coaching and guidance to the team, and uphold Accor brand standards throughout the event lifecycle. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a dynamic team in a prestigious London hotel, driving revenue growth and delivering exceptional client service.
Experience
Previous team management experience preferred. Proven ability to handle complex event enquiries, negotiate rates, and manage event planning processes. Experience in coaching and developing a sales or events team is advantageous.
About you
Dynamic and detail-oriented with strong selling, negotiation, and organisational skills. Excellent communication skills to coordinate with hotel departments and clients. Proactive, commercially aware, and able to prioritise workload effectively. Passionate about delivering exceptional customer service and driving revenue through upselling and repeat business. Able to handle client challenges professionally and escalate when necessary.
Qualifications
Relevant qualifications in events management, hospitality, or sales are desirable but not essential. A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and commitment to maintaining brand standards are essential.
