About the Role
The Commis Waiter will work alongside chef de rangs on the floor supporting them during service with food pick up, table service, clearing tables, station refills, and drink service. Responsibilities include polishing and maintaining glassware and crockery, keeping the back of house neat and tidy, and working closely with the back of house team to ensure clean plates and flatware are always available. You will also support the barista and hosts when required.
Key duties include delivering food orders rapidly and accurately with explanations of each dish, acting as the contact point between Front of House and Back of House staff, assisting with table setting, checking in with customers, serving food and removing used dishes, and ensuring food is served according to safety standards. You will also be expected to inform restaurant staff about customer feedback or requests and commit to sustainable practices daily in waste management and purchasing.
Additional responsibilities may include covering for line managers or senior employees and performing duties in different departments or restaurants as required.
Health and Safety is paramount; you will be expected to report and rectify hazards immediately, be fully conversant with Fire, Emergency and Bomb procedures, and promote a general awareness of Health and Safety within the department.
Experience
Previous experience within a luxury hotel environment working with LQA, Forbes 5* or equivalent standards is desirable but not essential.

You must have the ability to communicate clearly and efficiently in English, both verbal and written. Enthusiasm and commitment to delivering the best service and experiences possible in any situation are essential. You should be detail oriented, able to work well within a team, flexible to respond to different work situations, and able to provide high levels of service under pressure. Strong time management skills with the ability to multi-task while maintaining an immaculate and professional appearance are required.
Qualifications
There are no specific formal qualifications required, but a proven track record of surprising and delighting guests and a passion for excellence in service are essential.
