About the Role

This pivotal role involves driving high-quality, user-centred digital products that serve residents, businesses, and staff. You will lead internal capability building and manage external partnerships to design and enhance digital services, overseeing project teams and supplier developers. The role offers the opportunity to re-imagine digital product delivery using modern, innovative tools and platforms, working collaboratively across the council to embed effective and efficient digital solutions. As the subject matter expert, you will own and deliver the digital product strategy, ensuring services meet user needs and organisational goals.

About Us
Newham is one of the youngest and most diverse boroughs in the UK, with 72% of residents from ethnically diverse communities speaking over 220 languages. Our population of 351,000 is growing rapidly, and we are committed to building a fairer borough focused on economic security, health, equality, and the environment. Despite recent growth and investment, challenges such as the Covid-19 pandemic and the Cost of Living crisis highlight the need for inclusive and accessible digital services that support our community.

Benefits
Flexible working arrangements including office and home working
Generous pension allowance with employer contributions up to 8%
Access to Newham Rewards employee benefits scheme
Employee Assistance Programme
Eye test and flu vouchers

About You
Strong understanding of modern technology including cloud platforms, software architecture, and agile delivery methods. Knowledgeable in user-centred and service design principles. Excellent stakeholder engagement and data-driven decision-making skills. Collaborative leader who coaches and mentors multidisciplinary teams, champions agile and lean practices, and fosters innovation and continuous improvement. Familiarity with the cross-government DDaT framework and commitment to inclusive, accessible design.
