About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated officer to join a newly created Early Help SEND team within the London Borough of Newham. In this role, you will lead the development of new and diverse short breaks activities aligned with the thresholds set out in the short breaks guidance. You will have a strong understanding of legislation related to short breaks, SEND, and direct payments. The role requires collaborative working with multi-agency partners, Children and Young People’s Services (CYPS), and families, maintaining a visible presence in the community. Good IT skills, data recording, and reporting experience will be beneficial. This fixed term contract is for 12 months and offers an opportunity to contribute to a vibrant, culturally rich East London borough committed to improving outcomes for children and families through early intervention and targeted support.
About Us
Newham is a dynamic borough with a young population and a strong commitment to children’s services. Our Early Help and Prevention Services focus on early detection and timely support to prevent escalation of needs and risks. We work under a 'Circles of Support' practice model that emphasizes systemic and restorative approaches. Our targeted SEND Early Help team includes SEND-specific practitioners and coordinators, working towards improved health, education, emotional wellbeing, and safety for children and young people. The service is evolving in line with the Family Help model and Families First Partnership reforms planned for March 2025.
Experience
Experience working with SEND families and knowledge of short breaks legislation and direct payments is essential. Experience in multi-agency collaboration and community engagement is highly desirable. Proficiency in IT, data recording, and reporting is beneficial.

Qualifications
